In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.

About me

I believe that establishing a trusting relationship in therapy is the foundation from which all change springs forward.

Research strongly supports this. Through creating a space rooted in understanding and acceptance with a therapist, one can construct meaning from emotional struggles and successes, dreams and fears. This process can, and often does, translate into gradual relief from symptoms.

I have extensive experience working with people suffering from depression, anxiety, postpartum disorders, PTSD and personality disorders. Beyond any diagnosis, I am interested to discover the person in front of me through that which is meaningful to them: the feelings and tensions that inhabit them, the relationships they develop, the different roles they carry in life and the important transitions they live through.

Sometimes the source of suffering is evident to the person seeking therapy, such as when battling cancer, going through a separation or mourning the death of a loved one. Even life developments thought of as positive, such as welcoming a new baby into the family, can be recognized as a source of stress. And at other times people struggle emotionally without being able to identify a cause, only vaguely sensing that something is "off". Whichever the case may be, therapy can be a space from which one can explore their life's story and construct meaning, understanding and compassion around their struggles. I use an evidence-based approach in therapy, primarily rooted in a psychodynamic and systemic understanding of a person’s functioning. This means that I am curious to understand and explore with the patient the conscious and subconscious factors that drive their feelings, actions and symptoms. Having extensively worked in short-term and crisis intervention settings, I also use CBT, mindfulness and solution-focused techniques when appropriate. I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology, obtained in 2013 from the University of Montreal, in Canada, and have been working as a clinical psychologist since, both in psychiatry hospital settings and in private practice. I conduct consults in English, French and Romanian. I am experienced in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and acknowledge the importance of learning from a person about their culture of origin.
